Position Summary:
Based out of the Kansas City Restaurant Support Center. The Senior Software Engineer for AppleOne POS is a key development resource for maintenance and development of the AppleOne POS and supporting products. The position will be responsible for software development in a dynamic team environment. The candidate must be capable of leading moderate to highly complex projects and mentoring others in coding and design techniques. Individual should have ability to provide successful resolutions for complex technical problems by effectively identifying and defining issues, analyzing requirements, evaluating alternatives and making sound decisions to ensure the software solution meets the business objectives. The candidate will manage assigned tasks and provide status reports based on self-initiation. The individual will be capable of identifying risks and roadblocks that could impact time or scope and communicating those risks and roadblocks appropriately. The candidate must be a driven self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience is required in C#, C++, Visual Basic and SQL Server. Experience with POS, restaurant operations, Team Foundation Server is a plus.
Development:
- Develop and modify a variety of AppleOne POS and supporting applications using C#, C++, Visual Basic and SQL Server
- Ability to interpret functional specifications and draft detailed technical specifications
- With limited guidance, perform complex analyses, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation and problem solving of application and technology components
- Troubleshoot and correct application errors
- Participates in the establishment of programming and language standards
Teamwork:
- Work on teams with other development personnel and directly design and develop solutions for AppleOne POS and supporting applications.
- Interact and communicate effectively with software development team members to ensure the successful delivery and implementation of AppleOne POS updates and modifications into production
Leadership:
- Actively involves oneself into the project and learns details of projects. Uses the knowledge to improve project or product. Can involve others based on knowledge of business area.
- Monitors own work and work of other and reports back to manager on progress. Provides input on upcoming tasks and the task importance to the project. Provides coaching and mentoring to individuals on how to keep tasks on plan.
- Takes the initiative to get involved in a leadership of a highly complex project that involves multiple teams or development items. Internal and external departments and can coach or teach others on leadership values.
Communication:
- Can create a project plan without supervision that will guide and direct the work of others and effectively set expectations of time and scope.
- Can effectively communicate plans, issues, and other appropriate project information via meetings, e-mail, status report or voice mail to manager and other IT and related departments, and outside parties.
- Can write technical specifications and participate in the development of functional specifications, test plans and end user documentation.
Education, Training & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree Computer Science or a related field or equivalent.
- Required:
- 10 years experience developing, maintaining, upgrading complex software products.
- Proficiency in C#, C++, VB and SQL server.
- Specific industry experience is not required; however, excellent communication skills are a must.
- Desired:
- Experience with POS software.
- Experience with Team Foundation Server, SQL Server stored procedures, Install Builder, Microsoft Project.
- Experience in restaurant or hospitality industry IT departments.
- Experience in POS application development.
- Payment Card Industry experience.
- Sarbanes-Oxley experience.
